| The results are in, and it's looking like a National-Act coalition to take power, which is roughly like the Republicans winning in the US. No, not as right wing, as a friend of mine is eager to point out, but still rightwing enough to fuck shit up for those not fortunate enough to be born with trust funds.
WHAT THE FUCK, NZ? WHAT. THE. FUCK.
Still, I give them three years to mess things up to the point the electorate goes, "What the fuck were we thinking?"

| Ouch .. I'm sorry to hear that Misk. Sometimes it does take doses of bad to realize what good is. (Look what we did with the repubs and bush for the first six years of the new centuary -no coffee yet.. can't spell.) | |

| By not as right wing, do you mean in the sense that most first world countries don't have parties as batshit-right as Republicans? Or do you mean in NZ's left-right spectrum, they wouldn't be quite as far to the right?

I WISH TO UNDERSTAND THE WAYS OF MY POTENTIAL FUTURE HOME. Mostly so I can force it to embrace Halloween with gusto. Well, it has been decided amongst my social group that as much as we love Obama, he'd still probably be in our centre-right party, if not our fully-right-wing party. So we're screaming lefties and by no means does a "rightwing government" here in any way compare to having Republicans in power. On the other hand, it may/will probably mean the sale of some treasured state assets like Kiwibank and Kiwirail, and the probable, totally illogical, unprofitable but do-it-'cause-our-business-mates-like-it privatisation of our Accident Compensation scheme, which provides universal accidental injury cover for the entire population. There could also be moves to fuck with our lovely socialised healthcare and education, and even without all that I just hate hate HATE the bastards because they're so devoted to Business Interests, even when those aren't even capitalistic, just greed-driven, and I don't trust any of them to run a country. Also, much as you guys have just gone from can't-string-a-coherent-sentence-together Bush to eloquent-and-charismatic Obama, we've gone the opposite way, from sometimes-divisive-but-always-clear-and-authoritative Helen Clark to smug-bastard-starts-all-sentences-with-"Look," John Key.

| But you've got wonderful programmes like universal health care I'd really hate to see messed with. I"ve often pointed out to my reichthuglican supporting brother that we are the only industrialized first world country who doesn't have universal health care coverage. I hope your centre party looks before they leaps. Big business is all well and fine for providing jobs but lets get real; no centre party be in republican or not has any record of social justice. Best of luck to you babe. Hopefully next time people will have learned from their mistakes. | |
